ALM 20 ‘Critical Moments in Adult Mathematics’ 1 – 4 July 2013

We are pleased to announce that the next international conference of Adults Learning Mathematics – a research forum (ALM) will be held at the University of South Wales, Caerleon Campus, Newport.

Keynote presentations include:

Engaging Critically with Powerful Numbers in Public Discourse by Professor Mary Hamilton, University of Lancaster

More…or less? Developing a critical pedagogy of Adult Numeracy by Aileen Ackland, University of Aberdeen.

Turning negative to positive – the challenge of essential numeracy for all Lynn Churchman, National Numeracy

There will updates from the NRDC and NIACE as well as contributions from researchers and practitioners on:

  • changes in policy and practice
  • significant moments for those learning and teaching
  • inclusion of critical thinking in adult mathematics

The conference opens with a welcome event on Monday 1 July. The main conference sessions run from Tuesday 2 – Thursday 4 July. The last day will have a strong practitioner focus and is open to single day delegates.

  • free guided tour of Caerleon Roman Amphitheatre and museum on Monday afternoon
  • free return transport to see the sights at Cardiff Bay on Tuesday evening

A variety of packages are available, including early bird discounts for bookings received and paid in full before Tuesday 30th April 2013.
